"He's everything you want in a modern footballer" - Donaghy on Sean O'Shea

Kieran Donaghy is possibly the best person to ask about players destined for Kerry greatness - and he was delighted to give Off The Ball his seal of approval for Sean O'Shea.

O'Shea has been a standout forward for The Kingdom so far in the league, and no doubt fans will be hoping this form can translate into summer success.

It is the breadth of talent that has so taken aback Donaghy, however, as he spoke of both physical and mental attributes that leave him in no doubt that O'Shea will reach the top of the sport.

"He's special. He probably went slightly under the radar with David Clifford's exploits last summer, but he is a special footballer.

"He's got it all, he's got the right attitude. He can play it anyway you want to. He's got the skill. He is brave and he tackles. He has got a great attitude."

High praise, indeed, given that it is coming from one of the outstanding players in modern years - but Donaghy also believes that O'Shea is very much a man for this moment.

"He really is probably everything that you want from a modern day footballer - he is in the gym and in good shape.

"Sean O'Shea has played an awful lot of football already this year and you wouldn't know it from looking at him - he never looks tired. He just gets around the place and gets on the ball.

"His kicking ability both off his hands and his feet is obviously what is getting all the headlines, but he has got great personality.

"He came in for us last year and he wasn't just playing well for us, he was a leader within the group at 19."

Donaghy wishes nothing but the best for O'Shea in his and the county's desire to place themselves atop a perch reserved for Dublin of late.

"It will be great for Kerry to have a centre-forward that you look like you can build your team around for the next ten, twelve or fifteen years - however long he wants to stay at it."
