“I think Harry Kane will top Alan Shearer’s record” | Mark Lawrenson

Harry Kane overtook Jimmy Greaves as Spurs’ all-time leading all-competition goalscorer with 267 when he scored for Spurs last Saturday.

When opening the scoring versus Manchester City last Sunday, Harry Kane both overtook Jimmy Greaves as Spurs’ all-time leading all-competition goalscorer with 267 while also becoming only the third person ever to score 200 Premier League goals and the first to score the lot for a single club.

However, his first goal in the white of Tottenham came on Irish soil in 2011. Kane came off the bench for Jermain Defoe against Shamrock Rovers and provided the finish touches in a 4-0 win for the London outfit

Speaking on Football Saturday, Irish footballing icon Mark Lawrenson spoke about whether Kane is one of the best strikers of the Premier League era.

“He is way up there, isn’t he?” said Lawrenson. “If you look at the quality of the goals that he scores as well. This is the same lad who was on loan at 5 or 6 different clubs. There was plenty. I read an article about his first loan where he begged the trainer to come back with him in the afternoon so he could continue to work on his finishing.”

“He is a good lad, and you can tell he is very honest. I won’t mind betting on it, but I think he will top Alan Shearer’s record as the top Premier League goal scorer. Shearer will absolutely hate that. He will start crying. Could you imagine if he played in a team that actually created chances?”

The first of many for Kane

Cobh Ramblers manager Shane Keegan spoke about how he saw the first of many goals for the England striker.

“I remember I was talking to all of you before I headed across to watch Tottenham play against Arsenal,” said Keegan. “Arsenal won on that day. I could have been one of the few people in this world that can say they saw Harry Kane’s record-breaking goal for Spurs and his very first for the team.”

“I still think he is extremely underrated. His level of consistency is phenomenal. Usually, players that score that many goals are natural goalscorers, but he has so many assists too! I would love to know how many assists Alan Shearer has. I know he has nearly fifty assists which is just outstanding.

“Imagine Harry Kane playing number 9 with Harry Kane playing number 10 behind him.”

Kane will look to continue adding to his portfolio when Tottenham welcome West Ham to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next Saturday.
