Tributes paid to Justin Edinburgh following sudden death

The football world has gathered in shock and mourning today as reaction continues to the death of Justin Edinburgh.

Just one week ago Edinburgh sat in the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and saw his former club Tottenham play out their 2-0 Champions League Final loss to Liverpool.

Yesterday, five days after suffering a cardiac arrest, news spread that the 49-year-old had died.

The defender won an FA Cup and a Football League Cup with Spurs between 1998 and 1991.

The club were one of the first to post their condolences on social media.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked to hear of the passing of Justin Edinburgh.

Our heartfelt condolences and thoughts go out to his family and friends at this terribly difficult time as well as everyone that worked alongside Justin at Leyton Orient.”

Edinburgh had managed Leyton Orient since November 2017 and last season guided them to win the National League and gain promotion back to the Football League.

Orient chairman Nigel Travis said the club was "completely heartbroken by this tragedy," on their website.

"All our thoughts and love are with the Edinburgh family and we know from the messages that have flooded into the club over the last week that the wider football world will share our sentiments," added Travis.

"The success that Justin brought to Leyton Orient was incredible, but more importantly the impact he had on us all as a winner and a wonderful, inspirational human being will be his legacy and will stay with us forever.”

"All our thoughts are with Justin's wife Kerri and their children Charlie and Cydnie."

He also managed Northampton Town, Gillingham and Newport County in his career.

Tributes have been paid on social media from other English clubs, pundits and former teammates.
