It's well known that transfer deadline day is a roller-coaster ride for players and that's when they actually complete a move to a new club.
There are plenty of moves that we don't hear about that don't end up going through in the end.
Speaking to Off The Ball on our Deadline Day Special, Jonathan Walters spoke about how he nearly moved to Leicester City the year before they won the title.
“Leicester was the one, Leicester was close and I was sitting in a car park in St. George’s waiting to do a medical for a couple of teams.
“There were calls going on between my agent who I was with and clubs coming in asking if I was available.
“We didn’t know, and I think it was dependent on Stoke signing another player which didn’t happen," Walters said.
Stoke City
Walters said that Stoke City wasn't interested in offering him a new contract so he was eager to move elsewhere.
“I think deadline day shut at 8 pm and we got a call at 7:50 about what happened.
“It was the summer before they won the title. My friend Robert Huth had just gone in January and he was adamant the team was going to do really well.”
“I think they’re glad they didn’t sign me in the end because they won the league that year!" the ex-Stoke City player said.
Walters said he does enjoy transfer deadline day and he was always ready in case a team came calling.
“I used to text my agent every deadline day so when Barcelona or Real Madrid called I was available, I kept my phone on me all night," he said.
