John Kennedy focused on Celtic finishing the season strongly

John Kennedy insists the period between now and the end of the season isn't a trial period for the Celtic manager's job.

He's been placed in temporary charge of the team, following Neil Lennon's resignation earlier this week.

But Kennedy says taking the role on a permanent basis is the last thing on his mind right now.

"Unfortunately this season has not worked out the way that everyone wanted, and Neil Lennon recognises that as we all do, and he has faced up to that.

"We find ourselves in a position now where I have had to step in for the time being and try and move forward again."

Kennedy is the current favourite to be appointed as the Hoops' new boss this summer with Eddie Howe, Steve Clarke and Rafa Benitez also linked with vacancy - though David Moyes has ruled himself out.

"This has never been about me - even these few days," Kennedy said this afternoon. "I am a guy who has been here a long time, been in several positions, always applied myself and given everything I possibly can.

"For me personally I have no interest in looking beyond this period of time in terms of what is in store for me. It does not matter to me at the moment, the only thing that matters to me is doing the right thing for the club.

"I just want to guide them through this period, with all their help, to maximise what is left and try and get us back to what I know we can be.

"Naturally with bad results and pressure there can be a cloud on the training ground. We will try and lift that and let the sun come through a little bit."
