John Higgins makes 147 maximum break at the Crucible

Four-time champion John Higgins made the first 147 maximum break at the World Snooker Championship since 2012.

The 45-year-old has achieved everything in the game but that was the first time the Scot recorded a maximum at the Crucible, making it the tenth of his career.

Higgins trailed Kurt Maflin 5-3 heading into the second session of their second-round match on Thursday morning and was 7-4 down when he responded with a 147 break just before the mid-session interval.

It's only the 11th 147 break at the Crucible and the first at the Sheffield venue since Stephen Hendry in 2012.

Hendry (1995, 2008, 2012) and Ronnie O’Sullivan (1997, 2003, 2008) have both made three maximums at the World Championship, making them the only players to score multiple maximums in Sheffield.

Cliff Thorburn made the breakthrough in 1983, while Jimmy White (1992), Mark Williams (2005) and Ali Carter (2008) have also managed the feat at the Crucible.

Higgins is set to pocket £55,000 if it's the only 147 of the tournament.
