John Giles highlights Tottenham's positive step a year on

John Giles believes the way Tottenham fought back from a perilous position to overcome Swansea on Wednesday night is a "very good sign".

It will be a tall order for Spurs to close the seven point gap to leaders Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table but they need to win every game between now and the end of the season in the hope that Chelsea slip up.

Trailing 1-0 to Swansea with two minutes of normal time to go, Tottenham scored three goals in quick succession to win 3-1 and keep up the possibly forlorn chase for the title.

"It's a good sign because they obviously knew they were in a big match to catch Chelsea," said John on Off The Ball of the fight back.

"And they really missed out last year in a big way when they were challenging for the title and blew it really to make it easy for Leicester in the end.

"Now they're into it again and they don't want to go through that again and they have learned from that or else they wouldn't have done what they did last night.

"It's a good sign for Spurs that in a vital match, you're down and you come back very, very strong near the end and you finish up winning it. It definitely is a good sign for them."

Spurs were in a similar position last season behind champions Leicester but finished the campaign poorly to allow North London derby rivals Arsenal to snatch second place.

"I think they'll do their stuff better than they did last year. They couldn't do much worse than they did last year. But it's there for Chelsea to lose, there's no doubt about it. And Spurs can only do what they can do in the run-in," said John.

"There's no reason why they won't finish on a good note and finish in second spot at least and be a real challenger. They're the only ones that are making a really challenge to Chelsea.

"They blew it last year and teams either collapse or learn from it and at the moment, the signs are that they're stronger for their season last year rather than weaker."
