Johansson in Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for upcoming friendlies

Ryan Johansson has been included in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 panel for friendlies against Switzerland, Australia and Denmark.

The highly-rated Sevilla player was recently granted clearance by FIFA to play for the national team. He has played at underage level for Luxembourg, but his mother is Irish.

Midfielder Johansson signed a six-year deal at Sevilla from Bayern Munich back in January.

Manager Jim Crawford has also named Getafe's John Joe Patrick Finn in his squad for the first time.

In all, there are seven newcomers in the party of 26.

Among them are Derby County's Festy Ebosele, Sheffield Wednesday's Ciaran Brennan, Lincoln City's Sean Roughan and in-form UCD striker Colm Whelan.

Bohemians pair Dawson Devoy and Andy Lyons and Bray goalkeeper Brian Maher are the other domestic players to get the nod.

The squad also includes Schalke's Dan Rose.

All matches will take place in the Spanish city of Marbella.

First up is Switzerland on Sunday (May 30th), before the Boys in Green take on Australia on Tuesday (June 1st) and then Denmark the following Saturday (June 5th).

The games will be seen as preparation for the 2023 European Championship qualifiers against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Luxembourg in September.
