"Absolutely not." - Jim Gavin responds to Diarmuid Connolly and Jason Sherlock rumours

Dublin boss Jim Gavin has denied reports that Diarmuid Connolly has been training with Bryan Cullen, as well as responding to rumours surrounding the future of Jason Sherlock with the Dublin setup.

RTE aired a documentary about the life and times of Sherlock in December - 'Jayo' - and it had been reported on Saturday morning that the former Dublin forward had left the coaching team for the senior squad.

"How journalists report on conjecture and rumour is up to [them] - that's [their] profession, not mine. I can't comment on that," said Gavin.

On whether Sherlock was to leave the Dublin setup "Not in the least, no - not in the slightest," before expanding on his thoughts on the documentary:

"I thought it was an excellent documentary. If you haven't seen it, I would highly recommend it. Jason Sherlock was very brave to do what he did, and we're very proud of him.

"If you can watch that documentary without getting emotional, then you have a heart of stone. It is well worth viewing."

Gavin also addressed whether Diarmuid Connolly was in training with Bryan Cullen: "I can confirm that that is certainly not the case. Absolutely not."

As to whether Connolly was a candidate to return to the senior football panel, Gavin left the option open to both player and coach:

"I was away travelling all day for this game, but if any player wants to volunteer their time for inter-county football, we will always look at them.

"The door has always remained open for any player who has either been with us in the past, or who wants to join us who hasn't entered the squad yet. I think you saw a couple of players there tonight putting their hand up for a jersey.

"We will continue to look at the Sigerson [Cup] in the coming weeks, and the club games next weekend, to see who we can bring in."
