Jim Gavin | I'd love to see Diarmuid Connolly back with Dublin

Dublin manager Jim Gavin remains open to the possibility that Diarmuid Connolly can make a return to the county's senior panel this year.

Speaking to Off the Ball at the launch of this year's Leinster Senior Football Championship, Gavin expressed an open attitude to Connolly's return, but admitted that no decision had yet been reached with regards to the St. Vincent's man.

"Ya, hopefully so," Gavin responded when asked whether both Connolly and Rory O'Carroll might feature for Dublin over the coming weeks.

"Rory is obviously back playing with the club and playing really well.

"There are no exceptions to it, if you play well with the club we'll bring you in, so Rory is in."

On the seemingly more delicate manner of Diarmuid Connolly's return, Gavin remained relatively coy, but did appear to suggest that conversations had taken place between the pair one way or another.

"Diarmuid, like a lot of players, make choices and some players decide to put themselves forward for the county squads and some players don't," Gavin stated.

"A bit like Paul Flynn taking a bow out from the inter-county scene.

"I respect those choices. We'd love to have some of those players involved, but at the moment they're not, so who knows as the weeks progress?

"I'm speaking to a lot of players in the county, and even over the coming week we'll be bringing players in who haven't featured for Dublin before."

Reflecting on his previous experience working with Connolly, Gavin was quick to praise the contribution the Vincent's man had made.

"We've gone to war with Diarmuid on the playing-field over many, many years," Gavin noted, "an outstanding player."

"Of course, Dublin supporters and myself would love to see him back."
