Jack Byrne ruled out for 3 months due to back injury

Republic of Ireland international Jack Byrne will miss the next three months in order to undergo back surgery.

A short statement from APOEL confirmed the 24-year-old is set to have surgery on Monday afternoon.

"Jack Byrne will undergo surgery in the afternoon to deal with the problem of disc herniation that afflicts him in the middle. The estimated recovery time is determined at 3 months."

The former Shamrock Rovers midfielder has not featured for APOEL since early February and will now miss the rest of the season.

The surgery also rules him out of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Luxembourg.

Byrne joins James McClean and John Egan on the list of players unavailable to Stephen Kenny for the qualifiers at the end of March.

APOEL are in the relegation group of the Cypriot top flight after struggling this season.

Byrne joined the club just weeks before Mick McCarthy was sacked by the club in January and was given his debut by the former Republic of Ireland boss.
