Steven Gerrard is on his way to the Aston Villa, reports.
Reports today suggest that the former Liverpool player could be set to follow in Brendan Rodgers' footsteps, by leaving his side in Scotland mid-season to join a mid-table Premier League club.
Aston Villa let go of manager Dean Smith after a poor run of performances. On Wednesday, Sky Sports reported that Gerrard himself is open to filling the position and was pictured in London with his assistant manager Michael Beale.
Rangers however have had no official contact from Villa for their boss.
While Brendan Rodgers was completely dominant during his time in Scotland, winning seven trophies from seven and two trebles along the way, Gerrard's effort is less impressive, with just one trophy from a possible nine.
Rangers won the Scottish Premiership in 2020/21, stopping Celtic short in their pursuit of a famous 10th title in a row.
But while this was a vitally important trophy to win for the club, was it enough to earn Gerrard a move to the Premier League? BBC Scotland's Tom English is sceptical.
"Celtic and Rangers managers get to this point, where they hit the glass ceiling", English told Joe Molloy on Wednesday night's Football Show.
"Most of the successful ones get to this point after winning a whole lot more trophies than Steven Gerrard has won, he's only won one."

With a side as dominant as Celtic have been in the league, it may not have been expected of Gerrard to win anything in his first season. However, since then, with the investments made within the club, there is a suggestion that the ex-Liverpool captain should have a haul greater than one in nine.

"So it's really not a great legacy. One trophy out of nine, that's really not great given they've spent over £50 million in the transfer market."
Gerrard's top priority when appointed to the job was to stop Celtic winning the '10-in-a-row' and while he succeeded in that, there has been a lot to be left desired from Gerrard, and as a manager, he is still an unknown quantity.
"To stop Celtic winning the 10-in-a-row they really threw the kitchen sink at it. They gave Gerrard everything he wanted, backroom staff, players; and they did it. They did is very well."
"But they failed domestically in the cup competitions, they got beaten by St Mirren in one, St Johnstone in another and here was Gerrard saying 'I need more money to compete', well Rangers fans will be entitled to say 'before you want to conquer Europe, how about you conquer Scotland first?'"
It is understood that Aston Villa want a manager in place before the end of the international window and reports suggest that Gerrard will be announced as their new boss in the next 24/48 hours
