Ireland not distracted by France fixture uncertainty | Nichola Fryday

Ireland lock Nichola Fryday says it would be a relief if this weekend's women's Six Nations in association with Guinness game against France goes ahead.

Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers has confirmed that talks are ongoing in a bid to allow France to travel to Dublin without having to quarantine on arrival.

“This will be done on a case-by-case basis”, Minister Chambers told RTE Radio 1 earlier today.

“There may be governing bodies who present a plan that does not meet that equivalence, and if they don’t they won’t be given the certification to continue that activity.

“Sport Ireland will be policing this and will be in constant contact with the governing body. I think it’s very important we have that principle of equivalence, that the public health rationale is clear and transparent.”

The pandemic forced the postponement of the fixture last season and the Offaly native says they're only focused on preparing for the matters on the pitch.

"Look, as a squad, it's something we've dealt with on numerous occasions over the last year," Fryday said this afternoon. "It's not something we can dwell on because if it goes ahead, we still have to be prepared to play.

"And if it doesn't, we'll have to deal with it. It was just to focus on ourselves and make sure we were in the right headspace to kick off training this week.

"We were obviously very happy to get that win against Wales. And then on Sunday, the uncertainty cropped up.

"These are external things - they're out of our control. We've just focused on what we can control which is our prep for this Saturday."
