Jordan Henderson has every chance of winning the Premier League Player of the Year award, according to Graeme Souness.
The Liverpool legend was speaking on Virgin Media Sport and felt that Henderson would be well deserving of the honour, despite not being an incredibly skilful footballer.
“I think he’s got every chance of winning that individual honour but I don’t think that will be important to him. I think he’s a real team player. He looks to be a really solid character.
“I think you have to give him great credit for dealing with the criticism that came his way in the early days at Liverpool,” Souness said.
The Liverpool captain has not always been in favour at Anfield and the former Scottish international praised Henderson for sticking to his guns.
“I think Brendan Rodgers was trying to sell him to Fulham at one point. I think when Jurgen Klopp was there he wasn’t quite sure if he was totally for him.
“He’s imposed himself on Jurgen Klopp. He said, ‘I’m going to be that good you just can’t leave me out.’
“When you see him playing, yeah he’s not got the cute silky passes that De Bruyne would have or a Silva would have, but he’s got an unbelievable appetite for hard work,” Souness commented.
Henderson inspires his teammates to work harder, and ultimately, Souness felt that this is one of his greatest assets.
“He makes the rest of them run around with an enthusiasm and be aggressive with it. He is exemplary. There is every chance he’ll win it. There’s a real argument for him winning it,” Souness said.
