"I'm not going to hold my breath" | Solskjaer doubts Rashford will make Liverpool game

Marcus Rashford is now a serious doubt for Manchester United's Premier League showdown with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The England striker injured his back in Wednesday's FA Cup win over Wolves and his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasn't positive about the player's participation in his pre-match press conference.

"I am not going to hold my breath. I would probably think that he wouldn't be ready, but let's see. It's still 48 hours, so let's see."

Rashford has been the key United performer this season. He has scored 19 goals in all competitions and 14 in the Premier League, including three in his last four top-flight games.

During the Alex Ferguson era, United won 13 league titles to Liverpool's two, but the tables have turned.

Liverpool are closing in on a first title since 1990. They are 14 points clear at the top of the table and 27 points ahead of United.

Nevertheless, Solskjaer believes United can inflict a first defeat on Liverpool this season:

"We need a very, very good performance to go there and win. We beat City last month, we had the PSG game. We need to get to the level of those performances, definitely, when you go away against the team that's top of the league. To be fair, we've played Liverpool at Old Trafford twice, we've drawn twice and been closest to winning both those games. So we've got some games to look back at that will give us some belief and loads of belief that if we perform to our best, we've got a chance to win."
