Arsenal are the only team to register three wins from three this season, and Kenny Cunningham reckons they could be title contenders.
They held out for a two-nil win against Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season, took apart Leicester by four goals to two and demolished Bournemouth three nil last Saturday.
One of the standout performers for the Gunners has been William Saliba. Saliba has been almost like a new signing for the North London club as he has spent the last two seasons on loan at OGC Nice and Marseille, respectively.
Pundits reckon he is one for the future as he looks incredibly composed on the ball, strong in the tackle and plays with a swagger well beyond his years.
Speaking on The Football Show on Monday, Johnny Ward and former Republic of Ireland international Kenny Cunningham discussed Arsenal’s three commanding performances this season and the best players from the squad.
“l will tell who their saviour is. It is Saliba,” said Cunningham. “I actually have to ask questions why he was left in France that long. His performance against Crystal Palace was phenomenal. Arsenal missed out on the Champions League last season, and you cannot tell me that he would have not made a difference. He looks like a really accomplished centre-half.”
Johnny Ward and Kenny Cunningham then gave their thoughts on Arsenal’s young attacking quartet.
“The front four, we could talk all day about this. Saka, Martinelli, Ødegaard and Smith-Rowe. Those four, for me, are the future. The big challenge is to keep all of them. Saka is talking about a new contract. For me, he is the jewel in the crown. He could walk into the Manchester City side. He starts for Manchester City or Liverpool. There is even more, to come from him. Arsenal are in a great place.”
Cunningham then spoke to Johnny Ward about how Arsenal have fixed their issues at the back, which have haunted them for years.
“It looks like they’ve solved the issues at centre half, Ben White goes next to Saliba, and they drop Gabriel, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as he still has a few mistakes in him. He is still a good backup centre half to have. Good goalkeeper between the stick, a top class left back in Kieran Tierney.”
“They are on the up! They are more than on the up! They have almost arrived.”
Arsenal will look to stretch their winning streak to four games on the trot as they face Fulham at the Emirates this Saturday.
