'I want to win trophies' | Kenny outlines Celtic ambitions

Johnny Kenny says he wants to win trophies in his time as a Celtic player.ย

The 18-year-old was today unveiled at Parkhead following his move to the Glasgow giants from Sligo Rovers.

He will link up with Ange Postecoglou's senior squad as he attempts to break into the first team.

The Riverstown native was the subject of interest from several clubs in the UK and elsewhere, but opted for a move to Celtic Park.

The striker told the club's media team his ambitions are simple - to score goals and to secure silverware.

โ€œIt feels amazing," he said on making the move to Scotland.

"Thankfully itโ€™s over the line now and itโ€™s time to get down to work and impress the manager and get in and amongst it all.

โ€œI had a good season with Sligo and it was great to play there but when Celtic come in itโ€™s a no-brainer.

โ€œItโ€™s such a big club here and back home and so many of my family and friends support the club, so I couldnโ€™t wait to get here."

Kenny was a key part of Sligo Rovers 2021 campaign, as the Bit O'Red finished third in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

He scored 11 goals for Liam Buckley's side - become the club's leading goalscorer last year, despite it being his first season at senior level.

Kenny says he's particularly excited about playing at Celtic Park and learning from their Australian manager.

โ€œComing from the Showgrounds, itโ€™s a lovely ground in Sligo and it's home but when you come here [Celtic Park] itโ€™s just something different.

โ€œThe manager was massive,โ€ he said of Postecoglou. โ€œI was talking to him a few times before I came and itโ€™s amazing the way he wants to play and what he thinks of me.

โ€œThe amount of young players heโ€™s brought through here has been unreal and I hope I can play under him.

โ€œIโ€™ve signed a long-term deal so I want to come here, win trophies, score goals, get the fans on my side and win stuff here at Celtic Park and bring more success.โ€

Celtic return to league action on Monday against Hibernian - a club also mooted as a possible destination for Kenny.

The Bhoys lie second in the Scottish Premiership, six points behind leaders Rangers.
