Tommy Walsh | Limerick are no certainties to win the All-Ireland

Tommy Walsh and Jamsie O'Connor dropped into Off The Ball on Tuesday evening to look ahead to the hurling Championship.

Limerick have been impressive so far accounting for Tipperary when last seen. That performance has had many pundits purring, not so Tommy Walsh.

It was put to the nine-time All-Ireland winner that it was Limerick's Liam McCarthy to lose, Walsh didn't think so.

"No, absolutely not, " said the Tullarona man defiantly. "I'd see themselves Galway, Kilkenny and we'll have to see how Tipperary get on next weekend.

"I even thought the last day, there was a serious wind against Tipperary in the Munster semi-final if they hadn't got the goal with the wind, possibly they could have been in trouble in the second half.

"There's no doubt about it, they are a very good team, an awesome team but I definitely don't have them as certainties to win this All-Ireland.

"Look at this Waterford team this weekend, they have very good players in every line on the field. They have Sockie on the goal, they have Conor Prunty at full-back. I've been looking at Prunty the last few years, he's a great young player.

"At centre-back they have Tadhg de Búrca. De Búrca has been awesome, he's better than he was a couple of years ago when he was the best centre-back, the best sweeper in the game. He's a wonderful player to watch, brilliant in the air, brilliant on the ground.

"He has great speed, great vision but he's able to clear it long at the same time, the ultimate heads-up hurler.

"Midfield you've Jamie Barron, a former All-Star. Ozzie [Austin] Gleeson on the half-forward line and then you have Dessie Hutchinson and Bennett inside.

"This Waterford team will be up against it on Sunday because of the experience and winning mentality of the Limerick team, but I give Waterford a great chance," Walsh said.

Tommy Walsh goes with his heart

In the rest of the games, Tommy was definitive on some games but not so much on others. When Asked how Wexford and Clare would go the answer was a firm "Wexford."

In the clash between Tipperary and Cork Wals was slightly more hesitant. "That'll be close, " he said, "I'll give it to Tipperary."

In the game between Kilkenny and Galway Walsh had made a solid case for the Tribesmen. "It's probably 55% Galway, 45% Kilkenny," the former Cat said earlier in the show.

When it came to the prediction at the end of the chat with Off The Ball the tune had changed.

"No, I'm going to go with my heart here, games are not won in punditry offices Joe, I'll go with the Cats!"
