Cathal Barrett has been dropped from the Tipperary senior hurling panel.
The news was confirmed on Tuesday night in a short statement from the Tipperary County Board. The late-night statement confirmed Barrett was released from the squad due to "disciplinary reasons".
Barrett's release is the latest incident in a testing few weeks for the All-Ireland champions. They were knocked out of the Munster Championship earlier this month by Cork, and suffered a heavy loss to Galway in the Allianz League Final at the end of last month.
The former Young Hurler of the Year won his first All-Ireland and All-Star last season, as he starred for Michael Ryan's side on the way to September's Final.
Barrett suffered a knee injury in the loss to Cork earlier this month, and was expected to miss Tipperary's opening game in the Qualifiers.
While the Tipperary County Board have only released a one-line statement, Newstalk Breakfast spoke to Shane Brophy, Sports Editor of the Nenagh Guardian about the situation.
"It seems to be a breach of discipline from in or around the Cork game", Brophy revealed. "Whether it was one offence of two - it looks like Cathal pushed things a little. Michael Ryan decided to let him go".
Brophy added that the Tipperary team met up for the first time on Tuesday night after the Cork loss and the decision to remove Barrett from the squad "was a management-led decision"
Tipperary will play their opening match of the Hurling Qualifiers on July 1st.
