Tipperary will be without their two-time All-Star due to a knee injury he suffered in the win over Limerick.
A statement from Tipperary GAA confirmed the news that Patrick Bonner Maher will undergo cruciate knee ligament surgery.
Maher landed awkwardly on his knee during the first half of Sunday's Munster Hurling Championship clash with Limerick and was stretchered off.
Following a late Monday evening scan the injury news for Patrick Maher has confirmed he has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament. Cathal Barrett will undergo a scan later this evening to access his injury and a further update should be known later tonight.

The 29-year-old is facing at least nine months recovering and it's a huge blow to Liam Sheedy's men, who are set to face Limerick in the Munster final on June 30th.
Maher was part of the All Ireland winning teams in 2010 and 2016.
The Premier County have won all four games in the Championship this season to put them in contention for All-Ireland glory.
It's still unclear if a hamstring injury will force Cathal Barrett out of the Provincial decider with the All Ireland champions on Sunday week.
