"They got back to us in hours" | Waterford camogie statement met favourably

Sharing their frustrations with the Camogie Association in a collective statement made last week, Niamh Rockett revealed that talks are underway to facilitate the complaints made by the Waterford camogie panel.

At the end of an incredibly frustrating week for Waterford's camogie panel, Niamh Rockett has confirmed that the Camogie Association have responded positively to a statement made on behalf of all the county's players.

"We released a statement and sent a letter to the Camogie Association," explained Rockett to Off the Ball, "and they got back to us within hours.

"We're working together now and I think we all have the same goal to improve camogie and make it the best game it can be."

The primary issue raised by the county's camogie players concerned the rescheduling of a championship fixture at short notice.

Although it fell within the association's own rules on the matter, Waterford's players felt aggrieved at what they believed were the unrealistic expectations being put upon them.

"Allowing the change of date of an All Ireland Senior Camogie championship match with 5 days’ notice disrespects the effort of players training since October of last year," the statement read.

That the Camogie Association has responded favourably to Waterford's concerns is of great comfort to Rockett and her teammates as they prepare to take on Galway in an All-Ireland quarter-final.

"Whenever our championship comes to an end," she explained, "then we'll talk about [what is on the statement] again.

"The players just want to make it better for the players in the future. In fairness to the Camogie Association, they are working with us on it.

"Girls just want to play camogie at the end of the day."
