Tipp boss Michael Ryan's "not a fan" of night time hurling

Tipperary manager Michael Ryan is satisfied with his team's showing in their opening Allianz Hurling League encounter against Dublin - even if night time hurling isn't to his liking.

He is leading the Premier County into a 2017 in which they are defending an All Ireland crown and they saw off Ger Cunningham's charges 1-24 to 1-8 at Croke Park to get off to winning start in the league.

After the full time whistle, Ryan joined Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan to sum up his feelings on what he witnessed from his team.

"We just came to win and we're delighted with that to be honest," he said.

However, he added that he is not a fan of night time hurling, with Tipp and the Dubs throwing in at 5pm.

"It's never going to be pretty and I'm not a fan of this night time hurling to be honest," he remarked.

"But an opportunity to play in Croke Park - delighted with that. Absolutely delighted with that. We only got to play in Croke Park twice last year so if this is a really good season for us, this might be the start of three."

Meanwhile, Dublin manager Cunningham saw his side beaten by 16 points.

He did not mask his disappointment when he spoke to Oisin at full time.

"Very disappointing. We went out tonight with high hopes of trying to give a good performance tonight and I'm disappointed with how the performance panned out. We started reasonably well and were in a good position after 15 minutes - 0-4 to 0-1 up - but for some reason we kind of lost our way then in the last 10 minutes of the first half," he said.

"We missed a couple of chances, missed a few frees, had a chance of a goal and when you're trying to build a new team, you need to try to take all those chances. Maybe that dipped our confidence a small bit."
