'This Limerick can emulate what the Dubs did in football' | Ciarán Carey

Limerick legend Ciarán Carey says John Kiely's side could dominate the intercounty game to the same extent Dublin have in football.

The Munster champions were impressive 3-23 to 2-17 winners against Tipperary yesterday, setting up a Munster final against Waterford in a fortnight's time.

Limerick dismissed the All-Ireland champions in impressive fashion during the second half, kicking ion further from their opening win versus Clare a week ago.

And speaking on this morning's OTB AM, former Limerick star and current Patrickswell manager Ciarán Carey says they were on another level to Liam Sheedy's side yesterday.

"They were just toying with Tipperary, and there was an awful lot of fear in the Tipperary defence. Limerick yesterday were at it from the start to the very end. They're after sending out a huge signal to whatever teams are left," he said.

Carey went on to say that despite their All-Ireland semi finally defeat to Kilkenny in 2019, John Kiely could built a dynasty in the mid-west, comparable to Jim Gavin's five-in-a-row Dublin footballers.

"I made a prediction in early 2018; what Dublin are to intercounty football, Limerick are and will be to hurling and it's going that particular way. I think there are a lot of teams out there struggling still even in the last two years on how to prevent Limerick, or what kind of system to put in place.

"Limerick are 5/6 years perfecting and implementing their structure, but not only that, they're tweaking it every so often."

Much has been made of the size and physical strength of the Limerick panel, with Carey saying they're even fitter and stronger than they were two years ago when they lifted Liam McCarthy.

"We saw in 2018 the power, the strength, the pace and the skill Limerick have got. I believe they've possibly gone to another level.

"If you look at Cian Lynch physically, he's a lot trimmer than he was two years ag if that can be possible. You could see it yesterday. He looked sharper, lighter on the feet, quicker to turn, and his vision and imagination is always there.

"He's only one of 34 or 35. The mantra in Limerick really is you need to empty to the tank, but you have to be prepared to enter the spare tank. If you look at the subs that came on yesterday, all physically string, but all very, very quick. They are going to hurt you in the last 15 minutes of most games."
