Cahill departs Tipp amid speculation he's in line for Deise role

Liam Cahill has officially stepped down as the Tipperary Under-20 Hurling Manager.

After two years in charge, the Ballingarry clubman did not to seek an extension to his tenure.

He steps away after an extremely successful spell in a number of different roles.

Since 2015, as manager to the minor and Under-20 panels, he led the Premier County to four All-Ireland finals; winning three of them.

They include this years’ Under-20 title and the final ever Under-21 title in 2018 as well as a minor crown in 2016 and a Munster Under-20 Championship in 2019 and back to back Munster minor titles in 2015 and 2016.

The Tipperary County Board praised him today saying;

"Through his drive and dedication, Liam has raised the bar to new heights at underage level in the county, where his passion and enthusiasm for the game was replicated by the way his various teams went about their business on the field of play."

They went on to thank him and his management team "for the wonderful contribution they have given to the county over the years and the ensuing successes achieved as a result" and wished him continued success in his managerial career.

Tipperary Co. Board chairman, John Devane added;

“Liam Cahill is a man of great honour and commitment and it was a pleasure to witness first-hand his astute attention to detail in delivering success for Tipperary.

"He steps away with a hugely impressive CV at underage level and I have no doubt he will continue to add to it in his managerial career, and I wish him every success in that.

"Tipperary is indebted to Liam, his wife Eimear and family, for his contribution over the past five years.”

Cahill has been widely tipped to take up the vacant Waterford role that Páraic Fanning departed this summer.
