Galway's hurlers proved too strong for NUIG in their first-round match in the Bord na Mona Walsh Cup tonight.
The 2015 All-Ireland finalists ran out winners by a 1-21 to 1-12 score in Ballinasloe.
In the other Walsh Cup contest, DIT pulled off an upset as they beat an under-strength Kilkenny by 4-14 to 0-16 in Dunmore.
Wexford's Conor McDonald and Jack Guiney both scored goals for DIT.

In tonight's matches in the Munster Senior Hurling League, Clare beat Kerry 1-19 to 0-8 in Sixmilebridge, while Cork took victory in Mallow by a 2-17 0-12 score.
