A revamp of the All-Ireland hurling championship will be put before Central Council later this month.
Under the new proposals, the new-look All-Ireland championship would consist of two provincial championships and a provincial qualifier group.
The Leinster and Munster Championships would be played off on a round-robin basis, so there would be five rounds of four matches each.
Each team would play two home games, two away games and the top two teams at the end of the round-robin will qualify for their respective provincial final.
The winners of both finals will will qualify for an All-Ireland semi-final, while defeat provincial finalists proceed to the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
The third placed team in both championship groups would remain in the championship. A third route would exist through a provincial qualifier group.
If ratified, the changes would be introduced from next year for a three-year trial period from 2018 to 2020 inclusive.
