Football all-star named in Mayo's hurling team to play Nicky Rackard Cup Final

Mayo are strong favourites to be playing football deep into the summer as their 65-year quest for Sam Maguire continues.

There is a chance they might win a Liam McCarthy before they manage to lift Sam, however, as Keith Higgins and Under-21 star David Kenny have been named to start in the Nicky Rackard Cup final on Sunday against Armagh.

Higgins, the recipient of All-Star awards on three occasions will line out at centre-forward despite lining out at corner back for the footballers last weekend during their 2-16 to 0-09 victory over London in Ruislip.

Higgins has plenty of experience in Croke Park and has even been named a Christy Ring All Star in the past.

Kenny, another corner-back in football will line out at midfield as Mayo aim for promotion to the Christy Ring cup next season.

Mayo's starting 15 versus Armagh: Donal O’Brien (Ballyhaunis), Brian Hunt (Ballyhaunis), Gerard McManus (St. Jude’s, Dublin), Eoghan Collins (Ballyhaunis), Cathal Freeman (Tooreen), Padraig O’Flynn (Castlegar), Austin Lyons (Ballyhaunis), David Kenny (Tooreen), Ciaran Charlton (Tooreen), Joseph McManus (St. Jude’s, Dublin), Keith Higgins (Ballyhaunis), Sean Regan (Tooreen), Shane Boland (Tooreen), Kenny Feeney (Tooreen), Darren McTigue (Castlebar Mitchels)
