Donal Og Cusack highlights how hurling has evolved in his Clare-Waterford draw reaction

Clare selector Donal Og Cusack feels today's Allianz Hurling League final draw against Waterford was a fair result.

The former Cork goalkeeper, who was speaking to Newstalk Sports' Oisin Langan after the 0-22 extra-time result, praised the Clare contingent's commitment and desire and is unconcerned by the prospect of a replay next Sunday.

"A draw was probably a fair result. In the first half of extra-time, Waterford raced into a three point lead playing against the wind, so I think if we were asked at that stage 'would we settle for a draw', you probably would. But I thought our boys showed great heart and commitment," he said.

Cusack also reflected about the way the game of hurling has changed.

"It's just the way the game has evolved. You've got teams setting up in certain ways, you've got opposing teams trying to set up in a way to counteract. In general, the game has turned into a game that there's a lot of play around the middle third with not alone your wing forwards going back - Kilkenny would have been one of the first teams I ever saw actually employing that tactic where your half forwards would go way back deep into defence to collect the ball - and I think the game keeps evolving and evolving and long may that happen."
