The decline in Offaly hurling has been discussed in recent weeks after heavy defeats to Kilkenny and Westmeath asked questions of the future of the sport in the county.
"The current county board are not the core problem in relation to the yields of Offaly hurling at the moment. That began, for me, in the early to mid-nineties, with the types of coaching that was lost" Daithi Regan told Off The Ball last week.
"What I will say in relation to the county board that are there now is that they've absolutely buried their head in the sand for the last couple of years. Why can I say this? Because I know enough of them and I've had enough dealings with enough of them."
Tonight, Regan joined the show once again to discuss the surfacing of a document, which was commissioned by the county board to plot the future of Offaly hurling, 13 months after it was handed in.
The 39 page document outlines the future of Offaly hurling up until 2020 and on tonight's show, Regan shed some light on the report entitled 'Offaly Hurling Pathway: Building A Foundation For Future Success'.
"The newspaper [Midlands Tribune] contacted Liam Hogan, one of the authors of the report, and hugely respected in Offaly and Dublin GAA circles. They verified that it was a bona fide document and there was a committee that he and others were part of and that they had submitted this document on the first of April 2015. Ultimately that was all they heard of it from the Offaly county board.
"My understanding is that there has been attempts over the last couple of nights to interview the Offaly county board and I think the Offaly county board have been trying to bury it. And suddenly despite the fact that it wasn't on the agenda at a management meeting and prior to a county board meeting last night, suddenly this new template is on the agenda. Liam [Hogan] was asked at very short notice to address the hurling delegates."
