Aidan Fogarty joined OTB AM to discuss Kilkenny's situation, and whether Brian Cody might leave the setup soon.
Fogarty says that talk of Cody's demise has long been around, even since his playing days with Kilkenny.
Brian Cody
"He picked a backroom team only this year. We always talk about freshening things up.
"What Brian Cody has done is change the backroom team to keep the freshness in the team and in the squad. He has gone through about four or five backroom teams now.
"With COVID, and with the freshness to the backroom team, I think he's going to stay until next year."
With next year being so close, Fogarty clarified that he thinks a change may still be forthcoming.
"On the flip side, it is five years since an All Ireland final for Kilkenny, it is one Leinster title in four years. I think that if it was any other manager that tongues would be wagging an awful lot more. It is the fact that he has this massive record through the years, but that record has diminished since 2015.
"There are questions being asked, there are people in Kilkenny who have proved themselves as managers - Henry Shefflin, Eddie Brennan and David Herity.
"There is guys that can take it over, but I don't think it will be this year."
Brennan & Shefflin
Fogarty wonders whether the problems in Kilkenny are as much with playing staff as management, and is unsure if a new manager would get more or less from the panel.
"It is interesting to note that a lot of players have gone in with Brian Cody, even this year you have Michael Comerford, DJ Carey, James McGarry. Before that you had Derek Lyng,
"These are ex-players going in underneath Brian and the feeling was that when these guys went in that they were the next in line.
"But the two guys that never went in were Henry Shefflin and Eddie Brennan.
"I'm just wondering do they feel that if they got the opportunity to do the job, do they just want a clean slate of not being under Brian Cody.
"Bringing in their own techniques and not being associated with Brian."
