Hull City confirm two positive coronavirus tests at the club

English Championship outfit Hull City have confirmed that two people at the club have returned positive tests for coronavirus.

The English Football League earlier revealed that a total of 1014 players and staff from all 24 Championship clubs were tested for coronavirus over the past 72 hours.

They also said that two people from the one club tested positive and Hull later confirmed the news.

"Hull City can confirm that two people have tested positive for Covid-19 following the first round of testing at the training ground," a short statement on the club's official website reads.

"Medical confidentiality means the names will not be disclosed, and the club asks for this to be respected.

"The duo, who are both asymptomatic and feeling no ill effects, will now self-isolate for seven days – in line with the protocols set out in EFL guidelines – before being tested again at a later date.

"The Club will continue to liaise closely with the affected personnel and will make no further comment."

Championship clubs are due to return to non-contact training on Monday.

Those who have returned negative tests are allowed to enter training grounds but before going in they must complete a screening protocol with the club doctor to detect any symptoms.

The clubs are funding the costs of testing which will not impact the NHS and meets the standards set by the UK government and the NHS.

"The EFL will continue to make regular and relevant announcements as appropriate in respect of the testing programme to support competition integrity and transparency," reads part of a statement on the EFL website.

The Championship has been suspended since 13 March and there is hope that matches could start again sometime in June.

With nine rounds of matches left to play, Leeds United are top of the table with a one point lead over second placed West Bromwich Albion.

Fulham are six points further back with Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Preston joining the Londoners in the play-off places.

At the other end of the table there are only 14 points separating bottom club Barnsley and Reading in 14th place.
