Here's how Ireland can win the 2020 Six Nations Championship

This year's Six Nations Championship has been blown wide open after Scotland upset France in Murrayfield earlier this afternoon.

Gregor Townsend's side earned their second win of the campaign after seeing off 14 man France by 28-17.

Ireland have two games remaining against Italy (TBC) and France.

Ireland can win if:

  • they win both their remaining games with a try bonus-point, ending up on 19 points (England can only finish with 18)
  • they win one match with a bonus point and one without, it will come down to points difference with England (England are on +15, Ireland are on +5)
  • they win both remaining matches without bonus points and England lose to Italy (highly unlikely)

England can win if:

  • They get a bonus-point win over Italy and France fail to get a bonus-point win over Ireland/ Ireland get 9 points from two games but have a worse points difference

France can win if:

  • They beat Ireland with a bonus point and England fail to get a bonus-point win against Italy

England currently sit top on 13 points ahead of France on points difference (+2) and only have one remaining game against Italy (TBC).

Scotland's victory now means Ireland can win the tournament with a victory over France in Paris and Italy when/if the game is rescheduled.

England and Ireland's matches against Italy still to be rescheduled so we won't know for certain when a winner will be crowned but it remains wide open.
