Harry Maguire's move to Manchester United is a done deal

Manchester United are set to pay a world record fee for a defender for Leicester City's Harry Maguire.

Multiple sources report that a fee of £85m has been agreed between the two Premier League sides for the 26-year old centre-half.

Maguire's fee surpasses the £75m paid by Liverpool to Southampton for Virgil Van Dijk.

The England international was left out of the Leicester squad to play Atalanta in a pre-season friendly with rumours that the long-mooted move to Old Trafford was close to being done.

Maguire was reported to have held talks with Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers on Thursday with the decision made he skip the game with the Serie A side at the King Power.

United and Leicester came to an agreement on the fee on Friday morning, according to Sam Wallace of the Telegraph. He claims it meets Leicester's wish for a bulk fee upfront and various add-ons to follow.

The move - which is still subject to a medical - brings to an end one of the longer-running transfer sagas of the summer, with the clubs spending most of the off-season far apart in terms of Maguire's valuation.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already signed full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace for £45m, as well as young Wales international winger Daniel James from Swansea City for £15m.

Maguire's signing will be seen as a major problem area being solved for United. Eric Bailly could miss as much as five months of the season following knee surgery, which would leave them with Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones as their fit first-choice centre backs.
