Guardiola "wants to build a dynasty" at City

Pep Guardiola will stay at Manchester City to build “a dynasty” and win a Champions League title, according to Pat Nevin.

As Guardiola, rounded out another near-perfect Premier League campaign with a 4-1 victory over Brighton, speculation as-ever turned towards his future but Nevin believes Guardiola remains driven in Manchester.

Speaking on Tuesday’s Football Show Nevin said: “I can’t see him walking away from it at all. It looks and sounds to me that he has a bit between his teeth and he wants to build a dynasty there.”

“It's something that could be really special and would feel like something that is absolutely his.”

“I think the guy looks absolutely driven right now. I think he loves what's happening with Liverpool. I think he absolutely adored that - probably more in retrospect - that there is a team that can go and chase them.”

Guardiola’s current contract runs until the end of the 2021 season and if he was to remain until then that would make Manchester City his longest ever stay at a club.

The only potential deterrent to staying at the club according to Nevin, would be if Manchester City were to be expelled from the Champions League as reports are suggesting they may. Another issue Nevin cited would be if the uncertainty with regards to UEFA competition  affected their ability to sign Guardiola’s desired transfer targets.

However, one of the main reasons Guardiola will remain at Manchester City is because he has already managed in the two other top European leagues.

“I watch a lot of Italian football and I can tell you he’s not going there”, Nevin said.

“The standard there is miles below, miles below the Premier League. So where is there left? You've been at Bayern and you've been at Barca. To be fair, what else is there?”

“Can you see Pep hanging around PSG? I couldn't - he’d be bored senseless there.”
