Kevin De Bruyne is acting like a "spoiled brat" at Manchester City and should be dropped by Pep Guardiola - that is according to John Giles.
Giles spoke to Off The Ball after an underwhelming Champions League home draw against Shakhtar Donetsk, and believes that their erstwhile talisman is part of the underlying problem.
"I was very disappointed with them the other night. The one thing that they used to do well was hound the opposition when they didn't have the ball - they just didn't do that.
"One of the big problems that you have is De Bruyne. De Bruyne hasn't done his stuff for eighteen months.
"I thought he had a nightmare the other night - he's temperamental and not doing his stuff.
"People I see in the game are talking about the player he was two years ago. He is not that player, he is temperamental, throwing his arms up and not doing his stuff.
"Pep will have to get rid of him. He was a huge player for them when he was at his best, but he is certainly not at his best now.
"He should be out of the team or he will ruin them totally."
De Bruyne part of the problem?
Giles believes that De Bruyne is not harrying other players to retrieve the ball and that this is impacting Manchester City's efficacy.
"He seems to be distracted - if he gives a bad ball then he blames the other players.
"He's just not doing his stuff, and that is a bad influence. Pep has got to get him out."
Manchester City head into a packed festive fixture list, and could do with De Bruyne being at his best - get in touch with us @offtheball and let us know if you agree with Giles.
