"Granit Xhaka is a gob!" - Kevin Kilbane on Seamus Coleman's red card

Kevin Kilbane believes that Switzerland have been guilty of 'taunting' the Republic of Ireland and that Seamus Coleman cannot be blamed for getting sent off last night.

Kilbane joined Johnny Ward on The Football Show on Off The Ball, and attention turned to Seamus Coleman's red card in Ireland's 2-0 defeat to the Swiss last night.

Seamus Coleman

"Seamus Coleman didn't play well, and he will be the first to admit that," said Kilbane, before thoughts turned to an overall reading of their Group D opponents.

"[Switzerland] came to Dublin and I felt as if they were taunting us.

"I felt that there were one or two occasions where we allowed them to run through us, go through us with a tackle [and say] 'get up and get on with it, you're grand.'

"Seamus did the same in that game and I have no issue with that. I felt it was harsh yellow card."

'Gob' Xhaka

Kilbane believes that Arsenal midfielder Xhaka would do well to concentrate on the basics of midfield instead of getting involved in semantics.

"Xhaka is a mouth - he has got a gob on him. I would prefer Seamus to tell him that he has a gob on him.

"I would probably have reacted the same way that Seamus Coleman reacted because [Switzerland] were annoying me in Dublin in the way that they were almost walking all over us on our home patch.

"Seamus did the right thing in that game, and the right thing last night.

"I don't have a problem with that. because I feel that one or two others could have helped Seamus in doing that as well."

Connolly

On the prospects for the rest of the group, Kilbane remains optimistic of a win against Denmark, but is not convinced that Aaron Connolly will start against the Danes.

"Ultimately. I don't have a problem with Mick bringing him on with fifteen minutes to go.

"He probably cost us the first goal last night. His lack of awareness on the pitch cost us the first goal."
