Tiger Woods looks set to miss the cut at his first tournament he's played since February.
The 15-time Major-winner says he struggled for fitness en route to a second round 75 at the Memorial Tournament that leaves him 3-over par.
There are renewed worries Woods' surgically repaired back is acting up again, as he struggled to swing freely - particularly on his back-nine.
"Not very good" was Woods' assessment of his second round at Muirfield.
He added, "I three-putted two holes early, and whatever kind of momentum I was going to create, I stifled that early and fought it the rest of the day."
Woods conceded he wasn't moving as easily as he'd like, having struggled since the morning warm-up.
The five-time Memorial winner brushed aside concerns he may not be able to play, should the cut mark move in his favour.
Rory McIlroy will play the weekend at Muirfield, but endured another topsy-turvy round.
The world number 1 finished the day on 2-under par following a level par round of 70.
McIlroy began his round with bogey-double bogey, but on his back-nine would make an eagle-3 at the 5th.
"I don't know what it was", was McIlroy's response when asked to sum up his round.
"It was a few birdies and an eagle thrown in there and a few mistakes. There's some good in there, obviously, some mediocre, and there was some pretty poor shots.
"But I battled back well. I was three over through two holes, got off to a terrible start, but I battled back and hung in there and ended up shooting a reasonable score.
"It would have been nice to finish a couple better if I had have taken advantage of that par-five at the end.
"And the three-putt on nine leaves a bit of a bitter taste, but I came back well, and that's all you can ask for. My goal was to try to get back to even par for the day.
"I didn't really put a time frame on it when I wanted to get back to even par, but if I got back to even par for the day, and I did that, and I went a little bit beyond that.
"That's all I was thinking of, there were plenty of holes left. Obviously there's three par-fives, a few chances, and if you hit it in the fairway you're going to have a few wedges because the course is firming up a bit.
"I knew I had chances out there, I just needed to stay patient."
Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell won't be around for the weekend.
Just the one birdie was offset by four bogeys as Lowry carded a second round 75 to end the day on 3-over par.
Following yesterday's 79, things could only get better for McDowell - and they did, albeit marginally.
He shot a 76 to finish on 11-over.
Americans Tony Finau and Ryan Palmer are the pace-setters on 9-under.
