WATCH: Top Royal Ascot jockey suffers minor injury after being thrown from horse

Top Italian jockey Frankie Dettori suffered a minor shoulder injury on Tuesday, after he was thrown from a horse in a parade ring before a race.

Dettori is the most successful Royal Ascot jockey currently riding and with the five-day meeting starting next week, the timing of his fall could complicate his preparations for the event.

BBC Sport reports that he should be fit in time, and he is expected to ride at the weekend in preparation for Royal Ascot.

46-year-old Detorri was trying to mount his horse Tivoli in the parade ring at a UK racecourse, when the filly became startled and threw him to the ground.

He was then seen holding his shoulder in pain on the ground, before he was stood down for the rest of the afternoon.

Dettori did not suffer any fractures as a result of the fall, and left the course shortly after the accident.

Detorri has 56 winners at Royal Ascot, and is the fourth rider to reach 50 winners there, behind Lester Piggott, Pat Eddery and Willie Carson.
