Ireland have had a very successful recent history at the USPGA Championship. We have won three of the previous seven tournaments with Padraig Harrington winning in 2008 and Rory McIlroy winning in 2012 and last year.
2008: Padraig Harrington (Oakland Hills)
Harrington's win at Oakland Hills was the peak of an amazing 13 months for the Dubliner as he won his third major in six events. The win at the PGA Championship also meant he went into the 2009 Masters the following year on course for a Grand Slam. Of course that never happened, with Harrington finishing in a tie for 35th at Augusta. Despite winning this year on the PGA Tour, Harrington has failed to live up to the heights reached in that summer of 2008.
2012: Rory McIlroy (Kiawah Island)
McIlroy's second major win and first at the PGA Championship is the one many fans remember the least. He sunk the winning putt at Kiawah Island as the Closing Ceremony of London 2012 reached its conclusion. The win for McIlroy was his second in America and like is win at the US Open in 2011 he dominated the field to win by eight shots.
2014: Rory McIlroy (Valhalla)
McIlroy won his second year of 2014 after winning in near darkness at Valhalla. The tournament is best remembered for McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler all rushing through the final holes, especially the 18th to try and finish the tournament on Sunday as the light caused havoc with the end of the tournament. As Harrington had six year previously, McIlroy went to Augusta half way towards a Grand Slam but finished fourth at the Masters.
