WATCH: Horsey McHorseface wins its first race

The legacy left by Boaty McBoatface is a long a diverse one.

While the unmanned boat continues to work in the Antarctic, a list on imitations continue to pop up around the world.

In what may become one of the most successful spinoffs from the boat, a horse named Horsey McHorseface won its opening race at the weekend.

The three-year-old gelding had previously raced three times, before getting its maiden win at an event in Cessnock, Australia on Sunday.

Born in New Zealand, Horsey McHorseface came from behind to win the Arthur Thompson Memorial Maiden Plate, winning $11,200 in the process.

While the race was not of the highest of standards, it's worth watching just to hear the commentators enthusiastically mention the gelding on his way to victory.

It was the second time jockey Keagan Latham had ridden the horse, having spilt the duty in the four races with Greg Ryan. It looks the there is a winning team in position to move on up the Australian horse racing rankings.

The horse has already been dubbed "The People's Champion" in Australia. It's easy to see why.
