After his victory over Jose Aldo last weekend, Conor McGregor is among the favourites to be named Irish Sportsperson of the Year.
The awards ceremony takes place on Saturday night, and broadcaster RTE has built the hype even more by releasing a montage of the Dubliner's two title fights this year.
World Champion Michael Conlan remains the favourite for the award after his outstanding performances in Doha. The Belfast fighter became the first Irish male fighter to win a gold medal at the World Championships.
Compared to the British version, the Irish award is not voted on by the public and that may count against McGregor. Either way, it has been a fantastic year for combat sports with the excellent performances of Conlan and McGregor winning global titles.
