Welcome to week nine of Virtual Insanity, where we spend virtual money to try and win virtual money on golf betting. It's that simple!
The pot is at €905 entering this week's tournament of focus, the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the US PGA Tour in Florida.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational is played at Bay Hill. It's a par 72 with a lot of water in play.
This week's event starts at 11.30am Irish time on Thursday.
Be sure to shop around, with bookmakers such as Paddy Power and Betfair offering 1/5 the odds for your selection to get into the top 8.
Our first selection is Rory McIlroy for €6 win at 5/1.
Rory McIlroy has shown exceptional form in 2020 without winning. In his last three PGA Tour appearances he's finished tied third, tied fifth and fifth. His game is in tip-top shape and he's gearing up nicely for next month's Masters at Augusta. McIlroy closed with a 64 to win this event two years ago, so he carries course and recent form to the table. He's a rock-solid favourite and it's just a case of him winning now.
Our second selection is Rafael Cabrera Bello for €3 each way at 70/1. (1/5 the odds the first 8 places).
Spaniard Cabrera Bello doesn't win too often, but he is solid from tee to green and once the rough was lengthened at Bay Hill last year, it allowed that aspect of his game to flourish. He ended in a tie for third spot at Bay Hill in 2019 and goes into this week off the back of two top 20 finishes. Inside the world's top 50, he's a reliable option and could reward each-way backers with eight places available.
Our third selection is Patrick Rodgers for €2 each way at 125/1. (1/5 the odds the first 8 places).
Rodgers is one of the better putters on the PGA Tour and strokes gained putting has been an important statistic towards measuring success at Bay Hill in recent years. The American has produced steady form so far this season, with three top 25's. He posted a top ten in this event two years ago and was tied 21st at the Honda Classic last week.
Our final selection this week is Carlos Ortiz for €2 each way at 125/1. (1/5 the odds the first 8 places).
On the Mexican's debut at Bay Hill last year, he nestled inside the top 30. He's 23rd in the Fed Ex Cup standings and enters this event having finished inside the top 20 at the World Golf Championship tournament in his homeland. He could be a lively outsider.
So that's €20 wagered on this week's golf.
