Tyson Fury tweeted Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill this weekend, in an effort to dampen down the ongoing public outrage that has been caused by his controversial remarks.
The World Heavyweight title holder originally said of Ennis-Hill:
'That’s the runner, isn’t it? I think she's good, she's won quite a few medals for Britain, she slaps up good as well, when she's got a dress on she looks quite fit.'
He went on to make further derogatory statements towards the association between women and boxing:
'I think they are very nice when they're walking around that ring holding them cards. I believe if a man should go to work all his life, a woman can go to work as well. If you're not good enough, you won't make it anyway. Who am I to say don't you do that because you're a girl? What I believe is a woman’s best place is in the kitchen and on her back. That’s my personal belief. Making me a good cup of tea, that’s what I believe.'
Unsurprisingly, his comments were not well received by the public, prompting Fury to send a direct tweet to the sprinter in an attempt to curtail the negative reaction.

Fury has long be known to unload controversial theories on the world and is equally renowned for his lack of remorse in doing so. Despite having over 300,000 followers on his Twitter account, Fury's offensive comments about abortion, homosexuality and gender have made him an unpopular figure.
Fury is of Irish descent, but the celebrations for his World Heavyweight title win were notably subdued in Ireland. In addition, a petition has been launched to have Fury removed from the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year shortlist. 45,000 people have already signed the petition.

But judging by Fury's twitter account, he seems to be ok with that request. According to a BBC spokesperson, the sporting achievements of an individual are the only factors that are considered when deciding if someone is an eligible recipient for the award. Their personal beliefs have no impact on the process, meaning that Fury is likely to remain a legitimate nominee.
