Tyron Woodley retained his UFC Welterweight Title on Saturday night after a majority decision win over Stephen Thompson.
The two men for to a majority draw at UFC 205. Last November's fight was a contender for 2016's Fight of the Year, but the original failed to live up to the quality of the Madison Square Garden bout.
Thompson impressed in the first two rounds of a tactical fight, but the champion's class shone through in the final three rounds. Woodley was close to finishing the fight in the final round, but for the second time under four months, the team men lasted the 25-minute distance.
Two of the three judges gave Woodley a 48-47 win, with the third judge scoring it a 47-47 draw.
After their fight in November, Woodley teased a potential bout against Conor McGregor, but he refused to get drawn into similar predictions after his win over Thompson.
He did though say that he was impressed by what Thompson put on front of him during their second fight. "I thought I was going to finish him, but in the end I got the victory."
In the night's other fights, Alistair Overeem defeated Mark Hunt with a third round stoppage in their heavyweight clash. In his middleweight debut, former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans lost to Daniel Kelly on a split decision.
There were also wins on the main card for David Teymur and Cynthia Calvillo.
