Tony Bellew beats David Haye in heavyweight upset

Tony Bellew recorded one of the biggest wins of his career, after an eleventh-round stoppage of David Haye, during their heavyweight bout in London on Saturday night.

The Liverpudlian's professional heavyweight debut, ended in near farce, as Bellew was unable to stop Haye for five rounds, as the former World Heavyweight Champion struggled with an Achilles injury.

Haye seemed to injure his Achilles and ankle in his right leg in the sixth round, as visibly struggled for the remaining rounds until his coach Shane McGuigan threw in the towel in the final round.

The loss to Bellew ends Haye's chances of fighting once more for a heavyweight title. It's the first loss the Londoner has suffered since his comeback in January 2016. Haye's last loss came in 2011 when he lost to Wladimir Klitschko.

After the fight, both men were surprisingly effusive in their praise for each other, especially after the heated build-up to the fight when the men regularly abused each other and their fans.

Haye revealed in the ring, that he hoped the two could have a rematch, but he made no injury excuses for his loss. If a second fight does take place, Haye said he will travel to Bellew's home town of Liverpool to take the fight.

Bellew's time as a cruiserweight may be coming to an end. After the win he called out Deontay Wilder, claiming he would love to fight the heavyweight champion.
