Thomas Barr performed excellently at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo on Thursday night to take third place in the men's 400 metres hurdles.
A fine finish saw the Waterford man record as season's best time of 48.95 seconds.
The race was won by Norway's Karsten Warholm, with Olympic bronze medalist Yasmani Copello ahead of Barr in second.
Barr just missed out on an Olympic medal in the Rio 2016 final, finishing fourth and within 0.05 seconds of the same man who pipped him to Olympic bronze, Copello.
His time in Thursday's Diamond League race did not match that Irish national record from Rio of 47.97 but was 0.44 faster than his season's best time.
He also earns six ranking points for that performance.
