Former Team Sky doctor "regrets" not backing up medical records

The former Team Sky doctor who asked for a package to be sent to a cycling race in France for Bradley Wiggins says he regrets not backing up his medical records.

Dr Richard Freeman and team bosses say they don't have proof it was a legal decongestant because his laptop was stolen.

The delivery is currently being investigated by UK Anti-Doping.

In a letter to MPs, he says he asked for the medicine to come from the UK as he didn't know if it was available on the continent.

Freeman pulled out of an evidence session earlier this month because of illness.

Meanwhile, the MP in charge of the inquiry into doping in sport that Dr Freeman's evidence about the package sent to Wiggins in France leaves "major questions" unanswered.

Damian Collins wants more information about why there's no delivery record of what cycling bosses say was a legal decongestant.

"In particular, why were no backup medical records kept for Bradley Wiggins in 2011, beyond those on Dr Freeman’s laptop computer?" Collins said.

"Why were there not more formal protocols enforced on recording keeping? And whose responsibility was it to make sure that Team Sky’s own stated policies were being enforced?"
