September was the first month in six years that no player in the NFL was arrested

The NFL definitely has a problem with the number of their players that end up getting arrested, but in September the league and its players achieved a bit of a milestone.

For the entire month of September, no players in the NFL were arrested, something that is a very rare occurrence indeed according to Mike Rosenberg.

The league's arrest record makes for particularly worrying reading when put in further context by a bit more digging into the numbers, again from Rosenberg.

Since Roger Goodell became commissioner of the league, this is only the second time that the were no arrests in a calendar month, the other being July 2009, which fell in the offseason.

While that's not a great record, Yahoo Sports point out that a study by the University of Texas-Dallas showed that the NFL's arrest figures were actually lower than the average for American males aged 20-39.

However, publicity surrounding the arrests of stars like Aaron Hernandez (on a murder charge) and Ray Rice have added to the public perception that the sport has a problem surrounding player behaviour and crime.
