Rory McIlroy in pole position to win his first ever Irish Open as we enter the final day

Despite the inclement conditions yesterday and the two afternoon suspensions, Rory McIlroy has plenty to beam about as he sits at the summit of the leaderboard going into the final day of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

Play was eventually called off last night, just as McIlroy was on the tee at the long 16th. And having failed to miss the cut at his home event for the last three years, the world number three is determined to redeem himself at the K Club.

The remainder of the third round was completed early this morning to prepare for the arrival of more poor conditions and McIlroy continues to hold a two-shot lead in the final round, with Russel Knox chasing him in second place.

In addition, McIlroy has not dropped a shot since Firday afternoon.

Speaking after play concluded yesterday, McIlroy said it was unfortunate they could not finish the round yesterday while conceding to The Guardian that "it was getting dark out there."

"I struggled to read my putt on 15 and wasn’t really comfortable to hit the tee shot on 16. Actually the tee shot would have been OK to hit I think, but I didn’t feel the point to hit one tee shot and come back tomorrow morning anyway to play the second shot."

Elsewhere, Shane Lowry had carded a 71 earlier yesterday before play was stopped.

Tune into Off The Ball to get more updates on the above scores throughout today's final round.
