Paul Dunne reveals part of his game he needs to work on

Paul Dunne believes he needs to become more comfortable with playing on links courses after finishing level par at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

The British Masters champion endured mixed fortunes at Ballyliffin but insisted his overall game was in good condition.

“I just need to get comfortable hitting drivers on links courses in the wind,” Dunne told Off The Ball.

“I think if I went out to Parkland today I’d drive it great because my swing doesn’t feel so far away. That bit of tension when you’re hitting across winds and down narrow shoots – and you know there’s a bunker five-yards left.

“If you go in you’re in big trouble. I think it’s just about getting a little more comfort in that and shaping it against winds and then I’ll be fine.

“That’s really the only element that I feel needs a little bit of work.

“I couldn’t get anything going for the week. I didn’t get it in the fairway enough to have consistent chances to attack flags. Today was a little bit like yesterday.

“I got under par early and I had a few chances to get a bit more under but I didn’t take them and then I got a couple of bad breaks.

“All of a sudden you’re back to square one. The game isn’t far away. It’s been a great week with the crowds and the environment of having family up. All of that stuff has been amazing.”
